Background and Discussion:

Harris County owns and operates James Driver Park located at 10918 Bentley St.  The park is operated and maintained by Commissioner Precinct 2.  The owner of properties located at 10945 Eastex Freeway and 0 Eastex Freeway (subject tracts) is interested in discussing the sale of the subject tracts.  The County acquiring the subject tracts will provide for expanded resources of Harris County.  This presents an opportunity for the County to acquire property near an existing park to expand the capabilities of the Precinct to provide services to constituents.

Expected Impact:

The purchase of one or both subject tracts will provide the County with a resource to increase services to constituents.  The fact that the subject tracts are near a park is beneficial.  Acquiring the properties also allows the County to control what occurs on them.

Alternative Options:

The County could allow the subject tracts to go onto the open market and lose the chance to increase land near an existing park while also taking the risk of a new owner operating services that are not advantageous to park services.
