Request Summary (Agenda Caption):
title
Request by Public Health Services for approval to accept from the Texas Department of State Health Services grant funds in the amount of $378,438, with no required match, for the FY2026-27 Regional and Local Services System/Local Public Health Services Grant Program.
end
Background and Discussion:
Since 2021, HCPH has received the Local Services System/Local Public Health Services Grant from the Texas Department of State Health Services. This program, known internally as the RLSS grant, provides funds to local public health agencies to address critical infrastructure and workforce needs to enhance the delivery of essential public health services. We are seeking the court’s approval to accept this award for FY2026-27, which will provide HCPH with $378,438 in funding.
Expected Impact:
HCPH historically uses RLSS funding to support staff travel to out-of-state conferences and training opportunities. Accepting these funds will help increase the knowledge and public health competency of staff across HCPH offices/divisions, helping to improve public health service delivery and strategic decision-making.
Alternative Options:
The court could choose not to accept this award. However, doing so would limit professional development opportunities for staff, who gain valuable insight from conferences by public health associations that in turn helps inform local programming.
