Background and Discussion:

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) is the agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that leads public health efforts to advance the behavioral health and the nation and to improve the lives of individuals living with mental and substance use disorders and their families.

 

 

Expected Impact:

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) project aims to reduce risks associated with maternal mortality rates and morbidities related to childbirth. Goals:   1. Increase access to mental health services for mothers during and after pregnancy.  2. Increase access to mental health services for family members of the mother during and after pregnancy.  3. Increase knowledge about mental health services offered to families.  4. Increased access to care regarding social and support services.  5. Increase the capacity of trained maternal mental health professionals. SAMHSA partners with states, communities, and private organizations to advance mental and substance use disorder prevention, treatment, and recovery services to improve individual, community, and public health.
