Request Summary (Agenda Caption):
title
Request for approval to execute a Service Outlet Location Statement for installation of an electric meter with CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric, LLC and authorize the County Auditor to pay monthly bills for 3778 ½ Fry Road, Katy Texas 77449 (Intersection of Fry Road and Westfield Pkwy Drive) for electrical power serving a traffic signal associated with Traffic Signal and Intersection Improvement Package - Fry Road Project, UPIN 23104MF2XH01, Precinct 4.
end
Background and Discussion:
Traffic signal warrants were performed for a traffic impact study as part of traffic improvement project on Fry Road, the analysis warranted a traffic signal at the intersection of Fry Road and Westfield Pkwy Drive. Currently the intersection is unsignalized and has stop sign control for minor street. The signal will be constructed under Traffic Signal and Intersection Improvement Package - Fry Road - 2023 - UPIN 23104MF2XH01, Precinct 4. Project.
Expected Impact:
The project will install a new traffic signal at the intersection with exclusive left turn lanes and extend the capacity of the existing left turn lanes along Fry Road, to safely handle the demands of the current and future traffic volumes. The improvements will alleviate congestion, reduce delays, and provide safe mobility for residents, pedestrians, and drivers through the intersection.
Alternative Options:
All traffic signals require a reliable and uninterrupted power source for continuous operations, which is typically obtained through CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric, LLC. Alternative options are to provide a gas operated generator, which is not reliable nor feasible, or not to install traffic signal at the intersection. Both options will negatively impact operations and deteriorate safety and efficiency. If not approved, the residents and road users will not benefit from the safety and mobility improvements at this location .
County Strategic Plan Goal: 2. Connect our community with safe, reliable, equitably distributed, and well-maintained infrastructure.
County Strategic Plan Objective: F: Ensure safety and security for all using the county’s transportation network in alignment with the County’s Vision Zero plan.
