Background and Discussion:

Each hurricane season, Direct Relief pre-positions hurricane prep packs and modules in secure locations near vulnerable areas, providing partner facilities with the medications and medical supplies they will need in a storm’s wake. Direct Relief works closely with local partners in the US to ensure those in need have medication, supplies, and necessary care. The organization prioritizes work with safety-net clinics, which serve a key role in caring for displaced individuals, particularly those who are low-income and vulnerable.

Expected Impact:

Direct Relief supplies provide our public health team with essential medical equipment, medicines, and health resources needed to operate shelters and respond during disasters. They ensure we can deliver timely, effective care to displaced residents when normal healthcare access is disrupted, helping protect community health and reduce strain on local hospitals. These supplies are stored or delivered quickly, then distributed by trained staff and volunteers in coordination with emergency operations.

Alternative Options:

There is no alternative program that exists in Harris County that provides this service.
