Background and Discussion:

Harris County Public Health previously received Commissioners Court approval to apply for funding through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Lead Hazard Reduction Grant Program, including Healthy Homes Supplemental funding, under Notice of Funding Opportunity FR-6900-N-13. HUD has since awarded Harris County $5,750,000 in grant funding to support lead-based paint hazard reduction in approximately 135 housing units and Healthy Homes interventions in at least 75 housing units throughout Harris County, excluding the City of Houston.

Expected Impact:

Acceptance of this grant will allow Harris County Public Health to continue and expand lead hazard reduction and healthy homes services, resulting in safer housing conditions. The project will reduce childhood exposure, protect vulnerable families, and maintain service capacity as ARPA funding ends, ensuring HCPH’s ability to deliver critical public health interventions across Harris County.

Alternative Options:

None. This process is required by the Harris County Auditor’s Office prior to receiving grant funds.
