Background and Discussion:

Harris County Engineering Department received American Rescue Plan Act funding for wastewater and water projects. Through a vetting process, the Westfield Estates Sanitary Sewer System project was selected. Through the Request for Qualifications process, Cobb, Fendley & Associates, Inc. was selected to perform study, design, bid and construction phase services. Additional funding is needed for survey control recovery, changes in drawings, and replatting the lift station property. The overall scope of work for the project includes sanitary sewer lines, manholes, a lift station, a force main, connections to properties, and abandonment of septic systems. Project brings a public sewer system to an area where residents use septic systems, many of which are failing and can contaminate roadside ditches and public waterways.

Expected Impact:

Residential properties can be connected to the newly installed sanitary sewer system and abandon septic systems to minimize bacteria in the environment.

Alternative Options:

Continue the use of aging septic systems that are prone to failure.
