Request Summary (Agenda Caption):

title

Request for approval of an agreement with the Texas Gulf Coast Regional VOAD (TGCRVOAD) to exchange data to coordinate disaster recovery efforts in the county.

end

Background and Discussion:

The Texas Gulf Coast Regional Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (TGCRVOAD) is an organization that coordinates volunteer organizations throughout the disaster process to provide coordinated services to the community. TGCRVOAD facilitates partnerships across the public, private, and non-profit sectors and serves 13 counties, including Harris County, and TGCRVOAD collaborates with the Harris County Office of Emergency Management in disaster response and recovery efforts.

The data shared through this agreement will help volunteer organizations prioritize resources and reduce duplication of services, and the data may also help them geographically target underserved areas to ensure an equitable recovery effort. The Harris County Office of Emergency Management acts as a liaison, gathering information about the community needs post-disaster from across the county and sharing it with TGCRVOAD.

Expected Impact:

This agreement will allow TGCRVOAD to use data to inform its coordination efforts among the voluntary organizations for disaster response and recovery in the community.

Alternative Options:

Without this agreement, TGCRVOAD would continue to coordinate volunteer efforts but without data to guide and inform efforts, restricting the potential for maximal efficacy.
