Background and Discussion:

The Office of the County Engineer (OCE) obtained approval to proceed with upgrades as part of the Countywide Facility LED Lighting Projects, which align with the objectives of Building Operations Services’ (BOS’s) Capital Improvement program and the Harris County Climate Action Plan. This program supports asset and equipment improvements as well as major upgrades, ensuring long-term operational efficiency and sustainability of county facilities.

This project includes the upgrade to energy efficient lighting within the Civil Courthouse of approximately 230,000 square feet of existing office, courtroom and public spaces.  AutoARCH Architects LLC will provide architectural and engineering design services for lighting assessment, controls, and electrical systems.

Expected Impact:

The approval of this agreement will allow the firm to conduct the necessary design for the construction in the remaining areas within the building without upgraded lighting to provide an energy-efficient lighting environment that meets the most current codes and facility guidelines and standards and will reduce maintenance costs.

Alternative Options:

Alternative option for this project would be for the antiquated lighting to remain without upgraded lighting, requiring constant repairs and maintenance and higher utility costs due to outdated lighting and electrical systems.
