Background and Discussion:

Veterinary Public Health (VPH) seeks a contract that will provide microchips, a permanent form of animal

identification, with a lifetime registration for all dogs and cats who leave the animal shelter and for pet owners

seeking these services through various programs. Microchips are implanted underneath the pet’s skin and

aides to reunite lost pets with their owners. This contract will also provide microchip scanners to ensure every

animal is scanned entering the shelter.

Expected Impact:

Microchipped animals have an increased incidence of being reunited with their owners, reducing the length of

stay at the shelter, resulting in fewer animals being housed in a shelter each year. This contract will allow non

-interrupted purchasing of these microchips and microchip scanners at a consistent price.
