Background and Discussion:

This one-day, in-person event will bring together up to 200 Texas Vaccines for Children (TVFC) and Adult Safety Net (ASN) providers for program training, best practice sharing, and immunization system education aligned with National Immunization Awareness Month. Harris County Public Health (HCPH) administers the Texas Vaccines for Children (TVFC) and Adult Safety Net (ASN 19+) programs, providing vaccines at no cost to eligible patients through a network of enrolled provider sites. Sustaining high immunization rates requires ongoing provider training, program compliance, and strong stakeholder relationships. The Immunization Provider Engagement Summit centralizes annual required and recommended training for enrolled TVFC/ASN providers in a single in-person event. Scheduled in August to align with National Immunization Awareness Month, the back-to-school immunization season, and ahead of October re-enrollment, the summit delivers standardized education across the provider network. The one-day agenda covers TVFC/ASN program updates for FY 2026/27, vaccine coordinator responsibilities, VAOS portal training, storage and handling, emergency preparedness tabletop exercises, waste management, and ImmTrac2 reporting. Sessions include live demonstrations and hands-on activities, with potential participation from Department of State Health Services (DSHS) regional representatives and a state legislator. Attendance is limited to enrolled providers, with a goal of 150 and a maximum of 200. Post-event data collection will capture provider PIN, clinic, role, and feedback to support continuing education documentation. The event is in-person only; no patient-identifiable information will be shared, and all demonstrations will use mock vials per program guidelines.

Expected Impact:

The summit will strengthen provider compliance with TVFC/ASN program requirements, improve vaccine storage and handling practices, and increase provider proficiency with critical platforms including VAOS and ImmTrac2. By standardizing training across the provider network in a single convening, HCPH can establish consistent program expectations, reduce compliance errors, and build a more resilient immunization infrastructure for Harris County. Provider feedback gathered at this event will directly inform program improvement and future training events.
