Background and Discussion:
Harris County evaluated chilled-water solutions to support re-occupancy of 1010 Lamar. Utilizing an external energy connection was found to restore service and building functionality much faster while shifting maintenance responsibilities away from the County.
Expected Impact:
Utilization of the identified energy source provider allows the Office of the County Engineer (OCE) and space planning to relocate core county functions to a fully renovated facility. The utilization of an alternative energy source and relocation of core county offices will allow OCE to start construction on needed courtrooms to replace those currently located in Family Law Center. Utilizing the alternative energy provider (CenTrio) would allow OCE to reduce the delays in constructing courtrooms and other downtown projects by 12+ months.
Alternative Options:
Replacing the County’s internal chilled-water system would cost significantly more overtime and delay full occupancy due to longer equipment lead times and installation requirements.
