Background and Discussion:

Maintaining flood risk reduction infrastructure is a crucial part of the Flood Control District’s mission.  The Flood Control District is requesting the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) transfer $12.35 million from the Flood Control District’s Flood Control General Operating & Maintenance Fund (Fund 2890) to the Flood Control Capital Projects Fund (Fund 3502) to fund capital projects that support the Flood Control District’s maintenance program.

It is important to note that this is not a request for new funding.  Instead, this transfer will allow the Flood Control District to more efficiently manage existing capital projects that span fiscal years, with $11.45 million being transferred to support capital engineering projects that support our maintenance program and $900 thousand being transferred to support the replacement of aging heavy duty and specialized maintenance equipment (over 20 years in age).

Expected Impact:

These funds will allow for continued investment in our Infrastructure Maintenance Program, funding capital projects that support the maintenance program and replacement of critical heavy duty and specialized equipment.

Alternative Options:

These projects and equipment cannot be effectively funded within the current operating and maintenance budget.
