Request by Public Health Services for approval to accept from the Texas Department of State Health Services grant funds in the amount of $750,000, with no required match, and seven (7) positions effective September 7, 2024 for the Immunization Locals Grant Program as a Responsible Entity managing the Texas Vaccines for Children and Adult Safety Net programs.

Background and Discussion:

Harris County Public Health (HCPH) has been designated as a Responsible Entity (RE) for the Immunization Program, enhancing its role within the Texas Vaccines for Children (TVFC) and Adult Safety Net (ASN) programs. This designation grants HCPH direct oversight of vaccinations, ensuring improved coordination across the numerous health services it manages. Such oversight includes adherence to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) guidelines and expanded use of the Texas Immunization Registry (ImmTrac2). As an RE, HCPH will manage and oversee the distribution of vaccines throughout Harris County, ensuring that both children and adults have access to essential immunizations, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Expected Impact:

As a Responsible Entity, HCPH will significantly enhance public health by optimizing the immunization infrastructure in Harris County. This crucial role will streamline vaccination services, making vaccines more accessible and efficiently distributed, particularly to underserved populations. Improving vaccination rates will reduce the incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases and strengthen community health resilience. This initiative directly addresses the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) by impacting crucial factors such as healthcare access and quality, which are essential for achieving health equity across the community.
