Background and Discussion:

Harris County provides health and related benefits coverage to approximately 18,400 employees, 6,500 retirees and 18,100 of their dependents for a total of 43,000 members. Harris County is fully insured for long term disability benefits and pays a monthly premium to a carrier, who is liable for the claims.

This request is for approval of the first of six (6) one-year renewal options with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas for the period of January 1, 2025 - December 31, 2025.

Expected Impact:

The renewal provides Harris County’s covered employees continuation of their basic and optional long term

disability benefits. Overall, this renewal ensures a long-term disability benefit that contributes to an affordable

and generous benefits package to assist in efforts to recruit and retain a healthy and effective workforce.
