Background and Discussion:

This project is a component of the Greens Mid-Reach Channel Conveyance improvements project designed to achieve a 25-year system capacity along the entire 11-mile stretch of Greens Bayou. This project includes Segment 1 located along a 3.6-mile segment of Greens Bayou. Project consists of channel modifications within existing ROW to increase channel conveyance from John F. Kennedy Boulevard to the HCFCD Unit P157-00-00 tributary channel. Channel modifications include earthen side-slopes along with a grass-lined shelf which will tie into the existing Greens Bayou channel. Project is being funded by the 2018 Bond and CDBG-DR program.

Expected Impact:

To decrease the frequency of flooding within the Greens Bayou Watershed by increasing channel conveyance capacity between JFK Boulevard and the P157-00-00 tributary channel. Project achieves a 25-year system capacity along the entire 11-mile stretch of Greens Bayou. 864 structures are expected to be removed from the Atlas 14 100-year floodplain.

Alternative Options:

No Action Alternative would fail to meet the purpose and needs of mitigating flood risk and provide additional system capacity for this Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funded project. Under the No action alternative, area residents would continue to be affected by area flooding.
