Background and Discussion:
On August 27, 2024, the Harris County Commissioners Court approved the Interlocal Agreement between the Harris County Housing & Community Development Department (formerly CSD) and the City of La Porte, Texas to provide local bus services for the City of La Porte. The local bus service is funded through Federal Transit Administration (FTA) 5307 Urban Formula Grants administered by the Community Services Department and local matching funds provided by the City of La Porte.
On June 23, 2025, the La Porte City Council approved the Interlocal agreement to continue bus service for another year. The City of La Porte will provide $85,000 in local match funds for this service.
Expected Impact:
Fixed Route Bus Service in La Porte will provide more than 8,850 Unlinked passenger trips from August 2025 through July 2026.
Alternative Options:
Failure to approve this interlocal agreement will result in cancellation of Bus Service and deny transit dependent residents affordable public transportation.
