Background and Discussion:

The Behavioral Health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have been profound. Harris County residents have

experienced an increase in stress, mental health crises, substance use-related deaths, suicides, and more. Harris County approved eleven Behavioral Health awards funded through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). These programs invest in programs in the following categories:

• Behavioral health workforce programs

• Counseling for youth & families

• Substance use disorder treatment

Santa Maria Hostel, Inc., was awarded funding for the Behavioral Health Overdose Prevention Program.  They will provide access to medication-assisted treatment, peer recovery support, and create an integrated care clinic for individuals impacted by substance use disorders.

Expected Impact:

Santa Maria Hostel, Inc., will be able to continue providing integrated substance use disorder, psychiatric and primary care services to uninsured, under-insured, and under-resourced women and their families.

If the amendment is not approved, services will end May 31, 2026.
