Background and Discussion:

This project will install full-facility backup generators for critical facilities. Design, procurement, related site gas, electrical and infrastructure upgrades; constructing and installing equipment, fencing to protect generators. By adding backup power sources to the facilities, Harris County will ensure continued service to the residents of Harris County during power outages and provide much-needed warming centers and disaster shelters during major events.

BAY AREA COMMUNITY CENTER - $30,000.00

CLEAR LAKE ACTIVITY CENTER - $30,000.00

EAST HARRIS COUNTY ACTIVITY CENTER - $9,748.00

HARDY SENIOR CENTER - $30,000.00

LEONEL CASTILLO COMMUNITY CENTER- $9,848.00

MARTIN FLUKINGER COMMUNITY CENTER - $30,000.00

MANGUM HOWELL COMMUNITY CENTER - $14,376.00

DOSS COMMUNITY CENTER - $28,073.00

PEP MUELLER COMMUNITY CENTER - $13,122.00

Key tasks involved in this project include the design and construction of equipment foundation structures,

upgrading the related electrical and gas systems to accommodate the generators, installing ATS and Direct Connect Equipment, setting equipment on foundation structures, making gas and electrical tie-ins, trenching, running pipe, conduit, wiring, supporting services, systems, and equipment needed for each site. When the project is complete, we expect to have systems that will ensure uninterrupted power supply to the facilities, allowing continued use of the facility in the event of a power outage. The equipment installed will provide enough electrical generation to fully operate the facilities, instantaneously upon sensing the power drop from utility suppliers.

Expected Impact:

By adding backup generators to the facilities, Harris County will ensure continued service to the residents of Harris County during power outages and provide much needed warming centers and disaster shelters during major events.

Alternative Options:

There are no known, practical alternatives for a backup power system that will provide uninterrupted power to facilities. The only alternative is to forego investing in these systems and simply allow the facilities to be without power when the grid goes down. Any delay in the project risks a lengthy power outage and temporary loss of ability to use the facilities the next time there is a power outage. Stakeholders are all Harris County residents and others who are served by these facilities, the employees, and other people in the general area who may not have an alternative power source during a prolonged power outage.
