Project Description:

Precinct 4 seeks to purchase and install a heavy-duty automated car wash system at the Tomball Service Center located at 14444 Holderrieth Road, Tomball, TX 77377. Precinct 4 supports a fleet of buses and support vehicles used for park operations, road and bridge maintenance, and community programming. The buses routinely transport youth and senior residents to community events across Harris County.

Currently, no vehicle wash infrastructure exists at Precinct 4, and a new car wash system will provide a reliable, efficient, and environmentally conscious vehicle washing capability for the precinct’s fleet, improving cleanliness, vehicle longevity, and public presentation.

Justification & Alternatives:

This investment addresses a critical operational gap. Without a wash system onsite, vehicles accumulate dirt and debris, especially after storm response or road maintenance activities, accelerating wear and tear and diminishing the professional image of County assets. Routine vehicle washing helps:

•                     Prolong fleet life by removing corrosive materials and grime.

•                     Improve safety through cleaner mirrors, windows, and lights.

•                     Enhance public perception during community-facing transport.

•                     Reduce maintenance costs by preserving exterior components.

No feasible alternative currently exists for maintaining this essential function in-house, and third-party vehicle washing is neither cost-effective nor practical due to travel time, inconsistent quality, and limited vendor availability for larger vehicles like buses.
