Background and Discussion:

Traffic signals are re-built to improve the operation of an intersection and better facilitate pedestrian activities. The existing signal uses outdated and degrading equipment and does not adequately accommodate pedestrian crossings. Re-building this signal will ensure the intersection is brought up to compliance with current standards and will provide pedestrian connectivity.

Expected Impact:

Re-building the traffic signal will bring the infrastructure to current standards and specifications and reduce overall maintenance cost. It will also significantly reduce the risk of failure during a catastrophic event.

Alternative Options:

To continue to maintain the existing traffic signal and slowly replace degrading parts as they fail. This may potentially be more costly and incurs a risk of failure due to aging infrastructure.

County Strategic Plan Goal:  2. Connect our community with safe, reliable, equitably distributed, and well-maintained infrastructure.

County Strategic Plan Objective: F: Ensure safety and security for all using the county’s transportation network in alignment with the County’s Vision Zero plan.
