Background and Discussion:

HCJPD Residential Services Resource Liaison received the backpacks from the donors on February 26, 2025 prior to Commissioners Court approval, but have not been provided to youth. Upon approval at the next Commissioners Court meeting the backpacks will be distributed.

 

University of Texas Health Science Center-Pediatric Residency Program has been offering access to educational opportunities for residents in the greater north Houston area since 1972. Alexandria Laws & Andrea Pinto are Postgraduate Year 2 Pediatric Residents at the University of Texas Health Science Center who have been committed to working with HCJPD youth in providing quality care while empowering youth to manage their health while in Detention and upon return to their community.

 

Expected Impact:

The backpacks have an estimated retail value of $267.00 and will provide additional support to youth with their transition from detention to their home and community.
