Background and Discussion:
On February 12, 2024, Housing and Community Development (HCD) received notification from the City of Houston that HCD was awarded $200,000 for the PY2024 HYSP-Homeless Youth Services Program beginning on April 1, 2024, and ending on August 31, 2024, for the purpose of continuing to provide housing stability case management services to eligible youth headed households.
On June 4, 2024, Commissioners Court approved the acceptance of a grant award from the City of Houston in the amount of $200,000 allow HCD to serve youth, ages 18 to 24, and youth-headed households within the City of Houston to provide housing stability case management during the grant period of April 1, 2024, to August 31, 2024.
On August 27, 2024, HCD received notification from the City of Houston that the PY2024 HYSP-Homeless Youth Services Program was extended to November 30, 2024. An extension to the current grant period, originally ending on August 31, 2024, to now end on November 30, 2024, will allow HCHCD to continue providing housing stability case management services to eligible youth headed households and expend remaining funds.
Expected Impact:
The City of Houston’s PY2024 HYSP-Homeless Youth Services Program grant extension to the grant period by three (3) months, from September 1, 2024, to November 30, 2024, allows HCHCD to continue to provide housing case management to eligible youth headed households.
Alternative Options:
There are no alternative options due to the City of Houston’s TDHCA’s HHSP-Y program allows HCHCD to serve clients in the City of Houston’s service area.
