Request Summary (Agenda Caption):
title
Request by Public Health Services for approval of an amendment to the subrecipient agreement with Santa Maria Hostel Inc. to update the scope of work and reallocate the budget for opioid prevention services and education for the Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) grant program.
end
Background and Discussion:
Santa Maria Hostel Inc. was selected based on the surveillance data highlighting significant increases in youth substance use and overdose rates in Harris County, particularly among Black non-Hispanic youth and females who saw the most dramatic spikes, while White non-Hispanic youth had the highest death rates. Santa Maria Hostel Inc., leading provider of gender-specific SUD treatment in Texas, supports under-resourced communities and offers a comprehensive range of services, including residential detox, outpatient treatment, MAT, and supportive wraparound services. With a strong track record, Santa Maria Hostel Inc. served over 10,000 individuals in 2023 and collaborates with over 60 community organizations.
Expected Impact:
By updating the scope of work and realigning the budget, Santa Maria Hostel Inc. will be able to provide overdose prevention and harm reduction services in hospitals.
Alternative Options:
Court could choose not to accept this amendment, which may interrupt overdose prevention and harm reduction services for the residents of Harris County and limit staffing to support grant activities.
