Background and Discussion:

This is a partnership project between the City of Friendswood, Galveston County, Galveston Consolidated Drainage District, and the Flood Control District. The objective of this project is to reduce peak flows and decrease the water surface elevation along Clear Creek Channel (A100-00-00). Three alternatives were evaluated during the PER phase and alternative 2 has been selected, which is a dry bottom basin that provides total 710 acre-feet of storage volume.

Expected Impact:

Benefits for alternative 2 include removing 87 structures from the floodplain, 97 acres from the inundation area and 0.7 miles of roadway for the 100-year storm event.

Alternative Options:

The alternative should the PER not be accepted is the Flood Control District will not be able to proceed with design and construction of the project and flood risk will remain the same.
