Background and Discussion:
The Chimney Rock Road and Anderson Park project aims to mitigate flood risks in the St. George Place Redevelopment Authority (TIRZ 1) by reconstructing Chimney Rock Road and enhancing stormwater management in Anderson Park. The roadway will be upgraded with large reinforced concrete boxes to improve drainage and convey stormwater to Buffalo Bayou, thereby reducing flooding in nearby neighborhoods. Simultaneously, Anderson Park will be restructured to include stormwater detention and features like bioswales, which will help capture runoff and improve water quality. Overall, this initiative will provide immediate flood mitigation and contribute to a broader regional flood management strategy, transforming the park into a multifunctional area that combines recreational benefits with flood risk reduction.
