Background and Discussion:

Harris County's Technology Physical Security Policy is being established to provide guidelines on the operation of Physical Security at Harris County. The policy protects the County’s data, personnel, and Information Technology Assets from physical and environmental threats. Physical security includes potential threats such as unauthorized use, theft, natural or man-made disasters, and general emergencies. The Technology Physical Security Policy includes video surveillance, facility access control, badge access, and summons for help to ensure a safe and secure workplace. The policy details the roles and responsibilities, scope, and the request procedure for the technology physical security services managed by Universal Services.

At this time, no additional resources or budget is being requested as a result of approval of this policy.

Expected Impact:

Harris County Technology Physical Security Policy will help in securing the data, personnel, and information technology. If passed, HCUS recommends a minimum six-month implementation period to September 29, 2025. This timeframe allows adequate time for departments to receive the necessary awareness, training and guidance to ensure implementation, operating effectiveness, and compliance.
