Background and Discussion:

The Jim Fonteno Courthouse (Annex 26) is located at 14350 Wallisville Rd in east Harris County. It is currently occupied by several County staff groups representing the PCT 2 Commissioner, Harris County Clerk, Harris County Tax Office, District 3 Sherriff, Constable Precinct 3, & Harris County Justice of the Peace Precinct 3. The scope of this project is to replace the existing HVAC system and upgrade the building’s electrical and plumbing systems. Also included, are modifications to the buildings’ fire safety equipment and new fire hydrants at the exterior.

Expected Impact:

Completion of this project will increase the reliability of the building’s critical infrastructure systems.  This project will also prevent catastrophic MEP systems failure and disruption of service.

Alternative Options:

The system is currently safely operating and could be maintained at that capacity; however, it is old and prone to breaking down.  If the system breaks down, parts are no longer available for repair due to the age of the equipment.

County Strategic Plan Goal:  2. Connect our community with safe, reliable, equitably distributed, and well-maintained infrastructure.
