Background and Discussion:

The Harris County Flood Control District has completed a Pilot Study during which recommendations were developed for urban flood risk modeling methodology and communication strategy.  FEMA, through the Cooperating Technical Partners program, has awarded the Flood Control District $1.9M through two grants to implement the recommendations of the Pilot Study for Harris County.  The flood risk analysis will improve upon the simple urban flooding analysis which was done as part of MAAPnext.  The results will not be used to update the Flood Insurance Rate Maps, but to provide Flood Risk Products intended to better inform Harris County stakeholders about flood risk.

Expected Impact:

The purpose of this project is to analyze and communicate urban flood risk to stakeholders in Harris County.  This will allow the people of Harris County to make more informed decisions to protect their life and property from flooding.
