Project Description:

This project will be a play space designed to be accessible and enjoyable for children of all abilities, including those with physical, sensory, cognitive, and/or developmental disabilities. We hope to incorporate a variety of features like barrier-free surfacing, adaptive swings, sensory-rich elements, and varied play equipment to ensure all children can play side-by-side, fostering a sense of belonging and community.

An inclusive playground designed with accessible paths, universally designed equipment, and sensory-rich features would create meaningful developmental, social, and community benefits. Children of all abilities would be able to move freely, engage in physical activity, and participate in play. The playground would promote social interaction and independence for children with diverse needs, including those with mobility, learning, or sensory challenges. Families and caregivers would benefit from reduced barriers to participation and greater opportunities for shared play, while the broader community would gain a welcoming space that fosters inclusion, empathy, and connection. Ultimately, such a playground would serve as a community asset that strengthens equity in recreational access and enables children to learn and grow alongside one another.
