Background and Discussion:

Section 51.3031 of the Government Code allows the District Clerk to perform all duties necessary to process an application for a United States passport, including taking of passport photographs and allows the District Clerk to charge a reasonable fee in an amount set by Commissioners Court.

The District Clerk’s Office has been performing all duties necessary since 2013, and currently has two main locations opened to the public to provide the passport services. The main location is within the Courthouse Complex 201 Caroline St., Suite 170 and the new location serves the East End Community at 5900 Canal St., first floor.

Expected Impact:

Potential increase of the revenue in the General Fund 1000 with new proposed photo fee of $18.00.

Alternative Options:

Stay with current approved photo fee of $12.00.
