Request Summary (Agenda Caption):
title
Request that the County Judge execute a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) SAC Houston to allow the department to obtain reimbursement of costs incurred in joint operations/task forces from HSI SAC Houston.
end
Background and Discussion:
In pursuant to the provisions of 31 USC 9705, the Treasury Forfeiture Fund Act 1992, state and local governments could receive reimbursements of expenses incurred as participants of joint operations/task forces with a federal agency participating in the Treasury Forfeiture Fund.
For HCDAO this includes overtime salary expenses directly related to work on a joint operation with HSI SAC Houston, other investigative expenses, such as travel, fuel, training, equipment and other similar costs incurred by officers(s) assigned as members of the designated joint operations with the HSI SAC Houston.
Expected Impact:
HCDAO will be reimbursed for overtime salary expenses directly related to work on a joint operation, at a maximum $15,000 per officer per year; DAO may request reimbursement of other investigated expenses, such as travel, fuel, training and equipment.
Alternative Options:
Not approving the MOU will impact the HCDAO’s ability to obtain reimbursement of costs incurred in joint operations/task forces from HSI SAC Houston
