Background and Discussion:
The National Association of Counties (NACO) invited the nation’s counties to join Operation Green Light and show support for veterans by lighting county buildings green. The operation is designed to let veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported. The Engineering Department has examined facilities in the downtown area and requests for Commissioners Court to discuss shining green lights from certain fixtures at the following facilities:
• Historic 1910 Courthouse, 301 Fannin
• Administration Building, 1001 Preston
• Civil Courthouse, 201 Caroline
• Criminal Justice Center, 1201 Franklin
• Jury Plaza, 1201 Congress
• Juvenile Justice Center, 1200 Congress
• Annex 2, 1302 Preston
• Anderson-Clayton Building, 1310 Prairie
• Family Law Center, 1115 Congress
• 1111 Fannin
• Other facilities, as discussed.
The act is a sign of solidarity to stand by our nations veterans.
Expected Impact:
The County’s participation in Operation Green Light would be at minimal cost and will return substantial gains. At this point, the plans for execution including purchasing materials and engaging a vendor to swap the lighting at the subject locations. The material and labor vendors could be procured from existing County contracts.
