Background and Discussion:

Harris County requires the acquisition of the property to complete an American Rescue Plan Act grant funded wastewater infrastructure project for the Westfield Estates subdivision in Precinct 2. Westfield Estates currently relies primarily on outdated and failing septic systems for wastewater services. The proposed project consists of approximately 33,000 linear feet of sanitary sewer lines, 3,600 linear feet of sanitary force mains, a proposed lift station, and a possible 750 wastewater service connections. To construct a lift station for the new collection system, Harris County must acquire a suitable property within the subdivision. After analyzing the project area, it was determined the preferred location for the lift station site is at 2302 Chamberlain Street, Houston, TX 77093.

Expected Impact:

The proposed wastewater improvements would significantly improve environmental health and safety within the Westfield Estates subdivision, while increasing overall quality of life. Access to wastewater services has a potential to increase developments within the area.

Alternative Options:

A different property would need to be selected for the proposed lift station. This could increase construction and design costs and put the project at risk of not meeting the American Rescue Plan grant funding deadlines.
