Background and Discussion:

The Harris County Tow and Go Program provide motorists with no-cost towing when their vehicles break down from mechanical failure in the main lanes, shoulders, ramps, or High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes of freeways in Harris County. Since the inception of the program in August of 2020, this has been instrumental for our citizens. The program currently has six (6) vendors that cover eleven (11) highway segments in Harris County. The HCSO Incident Management Unit receives funding through a federal grant managed by Houston Area Council; the standard flat rate of $70.00 per tow is what the county and City of Houston pay to the participating companies with the Tow and Go program.

Expected Impact:

Removes stalled and abandoned vehicles in Harris County highways. No impact to the current budget in place.

Alternative Options:

Without this vendors services Harris County would forfeit the opportunity to remove stalled and abandoned vehicles in Harris County highways.
