Background and Discussion:

The Refugee Program conducts thorough health screenings for newly arrived refugees, including medical history assessments, physical examinations, and laboratory tests. Additionally, the program detects and addresses communicable diseases, chronic conditions, mental health concerns, and other health issues through prompt diagnosis, treatment, and referrals to appropriate healthcare providers. Refugees receive necessary immunizations and preventative care to protect their health and prevent the spread of infectious diseases within the community. The Refugee Health Screening Program is required by the grant to provide transportation services to its patients.

The Community Health and Violence Prevention Services (CHVPS) Division uses public health approaches to prevent and disrupt violence in Harris County and is comprised of two programs- the Holistic Assistance Response Team (HART) program and the Relentless Interrupters Serving Everyone (RISE).

Expected Impact:

The Refugee Health Screening Program provides transportation services along with various other services to incoming refugees as part of the grant requirement. This is the only program in the Houston area providing such services to incoming refugees.

CHVPS provision of transportation services will increase the likelihood for program participants to reach their identified goals.
