Background and Discussion:

The project is located in northwest Harris County in the Cypress Creek watershed, north of Cypress North Houston Road and west of North Eldridge Parkway. K500-01-00 Detention Basin Expansion project consists of expanding the existing wet bottom detention basin to provide the required amount of mitigation for the Cypress Creek Estates Subdivision project and Dowdell Woods Subdivision project located to south of the pond. Proposed improvements also include construction of Trail and Weir modification.

Expected Impact:

This project seeks to reduce flood risk and strengthen resiliency in Harris County by assisting in the alleviation of structural flood damage to homes in the community. This Study Report is a step in the process to reduce the financial, physical, and emotional burden flood damage places on homeowners and will reduce the financial impact of recovery cost to Cypress Creek Estates and Dowdell Woods subdivision homeowners, Harris County, and FEMA. No impact on project schedule or staffing anticipated.

Alternative Options:

The County could elect to fund the requested task or choose to reject it. However, if not approved, the project may not proceed as proposed.
