Background and Discussion:

The grant award was accepted by Commissioners Court October 8, 2024. Funding for this project was included as a Congressionally Directed Spending request in the FY 2024 federal budget.

Expected Impact:

Our agency’s patrol vehicles have standard windshields which do not withstand high-velocity projectiles. With the increasing threats and dangers that officers face in the line of duty, bulletproof windshields will provide critical protection against firearms, reducing the risk of injury or death.

Alternative Options:

If the Sheriff’s Office does not utilize funding from the grant award, we forfeit the opportunity to support the purchase of bulletproof windshields for patrol vehicles.
