Background and Discussion:

Harris County Pets (HCP), operated by the Veterinary Public Health Division of Harris County Public Health (HCPH), actively participates in Clear the Shelters Month each August by offering reduced-cost adoption fees and promoting available pets online and in person.

During the 2026 Clear the Shelters campaign, HCP will offer adoption fees of $25 for dogs and puppies and $20 for cats and kittens from August 1 through August 31, 2026, helping make pet adoption more accessible for community members.

Expected Impact:

Will thousands of pets find loving homes each year while raising awareness about pet adoption and supporting local animal shelters and rescues. This promotes improved animal welfare and public health.
