Background and Discussion:

The projected annualized usage for the renewal term is $ 147,840.00.

On February 8, 2022, Harris County Public Health (HCPH) was awarded $2.89 million through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to support blood lead testing for at-risk populations, including pregnant women and children under the age of six. The goal of the HCPH Lead Screening Program is to deliver lead poisoning prevention services to vulnerable communities across Harris County. This is accomplished through partnerships with HCPH clinics, schools, and community organizations to provide mobile testing units, which bring services directly to neighborhoods - reducing transportation barriers and ensure more equitable access to care.

Expected Impact:

The renewal of the contract with Ryan Diagnostics for blood lead testing kits supports the ongoing delivery of lead poisoning prevention services for at-risk populations and enables the timely detection of individuals with elevated blood lead levels. The FDA-approved, CLIA-waived LeadCare II testing kit by Magellan Diagnostics provides results in micrograms per deciliter (μg/dL) within three minutes at the point of care. This rapid testing capability allows screenings to be conducted in locations that are most accessible to community members, helping to reduce barriers and increase participation in testing.

Alternative Options:

Approval ensures uninterrupted lead poisoning prevention services
