Background and Discussion:

Harris County Engineering Department received American Rescue Plan Act funding for wastewater and water projects. Through a vetting process, the Westfield Estates Sanitary Sewer System project was selected. The scope of work includes sanitary sewer lines, manholes, a lift station, a force main, connections to properties, and abandonment of septic systems. Project brings a public sewer system to an area where residents use septic systems, many of which are failing and can contaminate roadside ditches and public waterways.

Expected Impact:

Connect residential properties to the newly installed sanitary sewer system and abandon septic systems to minimize bacteria in the environment.

Alternative Options:

Continue the use of aging septic systems that are prone to failure.
