Background and Discussion:

The Office of Managed Assigned Counsel (MAC) is planning a series of community outreach initiatives focused on legal empowerment, which will be aimed at raising awareness about the right to legal counsel and engaging various stakeholders within the criminal justice system. Funds are available from the Harris County general fund managed by MAC, so no additional departmental funds are required. This budget will cover event-related expenses, such as food, registration fees, venue costs, and other associated costs. Any reimbursements or payment requests will be handled through the county auditor, following standard county procedures for event-related expenditures. MAC is collaborating with other agencies for such events, with tentative dates set for March 15 and 18, 2025, as well as an in October 2025. These events will engage stakeholders from the criminal justice system for raising community awareness.

Expected Impact:

The funds are currently available within the MAC’s Harris County general fund.  No additional funds needed.
