Request Summary (Agenda Caption):

title

Request for approval of a Memorandum of Understanding between Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Harris County Precinct One for the delivery of AgriLife services to Precinct One residents.

end

Background and Discussion:

Precinct One wishes to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, a community resource that focuses on improving the lives of people, businesses, and communities through a variety of research-based nutrition education programs and information to families and youth with limited resources for the purposes of encouraging increased fruit and vegetable consumption, greater physical activity, better use of food dollars, adoption of healthier food safety habits, and the increased ability of individuals and families to prepare quick, nutritious meals. Precinct One would like to collaborate with AgriLife to deliver their outreach services around Family & Community Health, 4H and Youth Development, and Agriculture & Natural Resources to seniors, adults, and youth at Precinct One’s community centers, and this MOU will memorialize the services and programs to be provided.

Expected Impact:

Approval of the MOU will allow delivery of AgriLife services to Precinct One residents. Not approving the MOU would end the availability of AgriLife services to residents, degrading the quality and quantity of information available to them on how to improve their health.

Alternative Options:

There is no suite of services comparable to those offered by AgriLife readily available.
