Background and Discussion:

The Interlocal Agreement with the City of Katy for operating the Katy Branch Library was approved at the Commissioner’s Court meeting on September 19, 2024. This agreement ensures that a full range of library services, including adequate staffing, continues to be available to the community. After reviewing the branch’s operations, the Public Library has identified the need for an additional full-time Library Specialist I position. The position will be fully funded through the Interlocal Agreement with the City of Katy and will support the ongoing service demands and enhance library programs for the city and Harris County residents.

Expected Impact:

Enhanced library services to meet the growing needs of the community, expanded program offerings, and provide more support and engagement for visitors, ensuring a positive experience and fostering a welcoming environment for the residents of the City and the County.

Alternative Options:

Maintaining current staffing levels will limit Library services, increase staff workload, and reduce service quality, potentially leading to longer wait times, fewer programs, and a less welcoming environment for patrons.
