Background and Discussion:

Brookside Intermediate, constructed in 1995, was the campus most significantly affected by Hurricane Harvey in 2017. Continued development in the surrounding area has contributed to ongoing issues with residual ponding, which has impacted parking areas and posed a risk of water intrusion into the building. Revising the swales will establish positive drainage flow to the designated underground storm sewer system, reducing the potential for surface flooding.

Expected Impact:

This project will provide better drainage flow, reduce ponding, and prevent building water intrusion.

Alternative Options:

If no action is taken, there may be a negative flooding impact for surrounding communities.
