Request for approval to accept from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Foundation a donation in the amount of $50,000 to install ballistic windshields on 18 marked patrol vehicles as a pilot program.

Background and Discussion:
The installation of ballistic windshield will greatly enhance officer safety due to the increase number of assaults against police officers across the nation; specifically officers being attacked or fired upon while in their patrol vehicles.
Expected Impact:
Uniformed Patrol Deputies will be protected should they are fired upon while inside their patrol vehicle. The front ballistic windshield will protect all handgun projectiles from penetrating, thus, enhancing safety and protection.
