Background and Discussion:

The Community Project Funding grant program promotes investments in communities to improve housing and homelessness prevention. The Veterans Village project is identified as a transitional housing and wraparound services project for justice-involved veterans and those experiencing or are at risk of homelessness. Utilizing the CPF grant to complete the identified project would promote long-term stability and successful community reintegration for its residents by developing safe, dignified housing with access to comprehensive supportive services.

A grant application was submitted and an award of $1,616,279 was awarded for the Veterans Village project. An approval is requested from the Commissioners Court to accept the grant award and execute a grant agreement with HUD.

Expected Impact:

These services empower veterans to rebuild their lives with dignity, resilience, and purpose by implementing targeted strategies that improve access to safe, stable, and affordable housing and support services.

Alternative Options:

If the project does not receive federal funds, the proposed project may have to be constructed with local funds.
