title

Request for approval to execute a Service Outlet Location Statement for installation of an electric meter with CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric, LLC and authorize the County Auditor to pay monthly bills at 4515 Kilnar, Houston, TX 77048 electrical power serving a newly installed fountain at the Reverend Lawson Detention Basin, Precinct 1.

Background and Discussion:

A water fountain and the associated electrical infrastructure have been installed at the Lawson Stormwater Detention Basin. Approval of service is needed to establish permanent electrical service from CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric, LLC to power the fountain.

Expected Impact:

Establishing permanent electrical service will allow the fountain to operate as intended and provide the water circulation and aeration necessary to help improve conditions within the basin.

Alternative Options:

The alternative options would be to:

a.                     Use a generator to power the fountain. This would require additional operations and maintenance, fuel, and staff resources and would be less efficient and more costly than permanent electrical service.

b.                     Do not provide electrical service. This would prevent the fountain from operating and would leave the recently installed fountain and associated electrical infrastructure unable to serve their intended purpose.

Neither alternative would be reasonable. Permanent electrical service is necessary for the fountain to operate as designed and to realize the benefit of the investment already made in the fountain and associated electrical infrastructure.
