title

Request by the Sheriff’s Office that the County Judge execute a subrecipient agreement with the City of Houston in an amount not to exceed $1,254,000 for the C-UAS drone aircraft system use and purchase by the FY26 Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems Grant (C-UAS).

end

Background and Discussion:

The funds originated with the Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) Grant, which the City of Houston received in connection with being a host site for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.  The equipment to be purchased will enhance Harris County’s ability to detect, identify, track, and monitor unlawful use of unmanned aircraft systems. The interlocal agreement with the City of Houston is for the detection and mitigation of unmanned aircraft systems, as well as counter-drone response vehicle equipment storage.

Expected Impact:

The equipment to be purchased will enhance Harris County’s ability to detect, identify, track, and monitor unlawful use of unmanned aircraft systems, aligning with the county’s strategic goal of making Harris County safer and more just and reducing violent crime across the County.

Alternative Options:

Not approving this Interlocal Agreement would mean forfeiting the opportunity to receive these funds.
