Background and Discussion:
Tree Spading Services for the Harris County Flood Control District support the District’s reforestation efforts through the transplanting and establishment of trees that are larger than what can be provided through traditional nursery supplies. These services will provide support for infrastructure maintenance work that will be executed as a result of the passage of the “Maintenance Matters” Proposition in November 2024.
Expected Impact:
Renewing this contract will allow the District to continue to move select trees out of the path of construction and place large trees on sites to be enjoyed by the public. Trees transplanting through these operations provide instant impact to reforestation areas and helps to speed the reforestation process.
Alternative Options:
The District could purchase the equipment necessary for tree moving and recruit and train personnel to operate the equipment. The District could also forego any large tree moving operations.
